Batik Beads

Batik Fabric is a patterned fabric usually made using a wax resist.  I have always loved the earthy feel of these textiles.

I wanted to make some lampwork glass beads with the  same patterning as batik fabric.  In lampworking, you use a torch to melt glass around a mandrel and with a wrapping technique you form the bead.  I experimented with some special glass called reduction glass that pushes away other glass when heated.  This enabled me to make some beads that I thought mimicked the batik patterning.

These lentil beads were made with copper green and rubino glass.  These two colors play well with each other.

Here is a close up of this same necklace.

These were all fun to make.  I love how the colors form individual patterns that make one big pattern.

These beads are all available in my Etsy store at Helen’s Adornments Etsy Shop
